Latest from the CFL: Edmonton Eskimos are Out
The League replaces them with local high school team.
Monday, September 30, 2013
(SNN) - Big news from the CFL today. The Edmonton Eskimos have called it quits for the 2013 season. No one would take the blame for the horrible game on Saturday after loosing to the Toronto Argonauts. They were up by 21 points at the half and then just didn't come out of the locker room for the second half. General Manager Ed Hervey could not ridicule any one player and after a team meeting Sunday not one player would take the blame. With only one course of action, Ed Hervey cancelled the rest of the Eskimos games. Authorities were quick to respond with a suitable alternate to complete the schedule. The CFL surprised the sports world when they announced that the Scona Lords football team will take over the rest of the year for the Eskimos.
When contacted this morning at Strathcona Composite High School, a strong message was brought forth:
"There is a strong sense of leadership that we instill in each and every player that pulls the Strathcona red and gold over their shoulder pads. When you play for the Strathcona Lords it’s about more than just fresh air and friendship."
Our football coaches believe in getting things done. We demand a level of commitment of our football players that goes beyond showing up for practice on time. We expect our players to work together and work hard, with conditioning sessions that keep us all training in the right direction.
We gratefully accept the challenge that the CFL has brought forward to us. We, as a team, know that we will be able to put a strong football team on the field. Much better than what has been playing in Commonwealth Stadium lately.
I am positive that the Scona Lords will bring back some life to Edmonton football. It is great to see the CFL will allow these underage players to participate and give Edmonton a chance to live up to the motto, “City of Champions.”
As for the Eskimos, one Scona player said it best, “Better luck next year Eskimos now, get the hell out of our locker room. Go Lords Go!”
